Brief Description: Black and white photograph of workers packing bricks into a kiln before baking at S and E Collier's brick works.
Subject Date: 1945
Creator: Ministry of Information

Full Description: This is one of a number of high quality photographs taken by an anonymous photographer from the Ministry of Information in 1945. They show the wide variety of economic and social life in town. The purpose of taking such a set of photographs seems to have been to demonstrate England's continuing economic and social life, despite the ravages of the war. Reading seems to have been chosen as the subject because it was viewed as a 'typical' English town. This photograph shows workers packing bricks into a kiln before baking at S and E Collier's brick works. Colliers closed in 1965.
