Brief Description: Huntley and Palmer picture card featuring sailors loading biscuits into hot air balloon
Subject Date: 1890s
Publisher: Huntley & Palmers

Full Description: This small advertisement is from a series that illustrated how Huntley & Palmers' biscuits reached the four corners of the globe. During the 1890s hot air ballooning became a popular sport among rich men and by 1901 Aero Clubs were established in England. The British Army started using balloons in 1880 and the Royal Engineers Balloon Section was founded in 1890. In 1912 this became the Royal Flying Corps, the forerunner of the Royal Air Force.
