Brief Description: Cream cracker shaped tin with lettering in white and orange inside a black curved-lozenge on an orange background. Hinged lid. Design repeated on sides
Subject Date: 1981
Creator: Not known
Publisher: Jacob and Co

Full Description: A famous and instantly recognizable design, though when it began is has not yet been researched. The Jacob's Illustrated Export List of 1973 in the Museum of Reading records shows this distinctive black curved-lozenge logo against an orange background. It would certainly seem to be post-World War Two. Interestingly, the 'Jacob's Trumpeter' sample tin from late 1920s shows the same combination of orange and black colours, though the usual Jacob's emblem at this time was the trumpeter figure. Similar dry packaging is illustrated in the 1981 catalogue, although no exact representation of this tin is shown.
