Brief Description: Visit of the Prince of Wales to Huntley & Palmers on 25 June 1926
Subject Date: 1926
Full Description: Large crowds gathered across Reading to greet the Prince of Wales, later to become the Duke of Windsor. The photograph shows the clear segregation of male and female employees - with the women wearing white and the men in darker clothes. The Princes' visit was to mark the supposed centenary of the company - in fact the company was already 104 years old! His other engagements that day included Huntley, Boorne & Stevens tin works and the Royal Berkshire Hospital. The Prince was an extremely popular figure until the 1936 abdication crisis when he refused to give up Mrs Simpson.
