Brief Description: Photograph of Huntley & Palmers factory exterior showing male employee, horse and cart. 'H and P Reading, Berks' written on side of cart
Subject Date: Early twentieth century

Full Description: The introduction of the railways during the nineteenth century led to a reduction in the use of the horse and cart for goods transportation. From that point on, the horse and cart was restricted to local traffic and to areas where the railways did not yet reach. By the 1930s the horse and cart became a rare sight as the motor vehicle became the preferred means of transport.
