Brief Description: Advertising leaflet for 'Superior Reading Biscuits' including Osborne biscuits, overprinted with Birkenhead retailer's details
Subject Date: 1860 - 1880
Publisher: Huntley & Palmers

Full Description: In the nineteenth century Huntley & Palmers did not use widespread marketing believing it made their products look cheap and low quality. Advertising was restricted to low-key leaflet and flyers like this one that listed the company's most popular varieties; Rich Dessert, Osborne, Fancy Cracknel, Savoy, Milk, Thin Abernethy, Rich Mixed, Rural, Maizena Wafers, Sponge Rusks, Fancy Nic Nac , Lunch and Fete. However rivals like Peek Frean were successfully using media advertising and were increasing their market share at the expense of Huntley & Palmers.
