Brief Description: A black and white photograph of the view down Broad Street from the top of Fountain House
Subject Date: 1999
Creator: Sam Frost

Full Description: Views of the Market Place in the nineteenth century show an equally busy scene. At that time, however, most of the commercial activity involved farmers buying and selling corn. Bt the late twentieth century the days when cattle and carts were driven along Broad Street to the Market Place are over. The street is now lined with large chain stores and the town centre's commercial activity is largely confined to buying and selling consumer goods.
